5 Tips to Help You Pack More Efficiently During Your Move

For some individuals, packing up all of your belongings and moving is exciting, fun, and an enjoyable event, but for others, moving can be absolutely dreadful and stressful. Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, there’s no doubt about it that moving day and the pre-packing that comes with it is exhausting work. To make your move that much more efficient, effective, and without aggravation, we are offering five packing tips to make your transition that much easier.

1. Where To Begin Packing

Storage Areas First. One of the most practical tips on the list is to pack the least used items first, which is most often what has been gathering dust in your storage areas. That includes the basement, attic, and outdoor sheds. Most likely, a lot of these items will already be in boxes, and so all you need to do is label them and place them in your “packed room” or the place where you’ll be placing all of your packed items for the truck. Once this is done, pack away any items that are not part of your daily life, so things like books, artwork, and seasonal items.

2. Check to see if you have original boxes for your electronics.

Your flat screen TV could is a fragile piece of technology. The best way to transport it is in the original boxes they arrived in as they were made to withstand transport. Alternatively, Quilted blankets, bubble wrap, and sturdy tape all work well to protect TVs and similarly delicate items.

3. Use a Labeling System To Make It Easy.

When you use a label system, the organization of your moving boxes becomes a lot simpler. Plus, when it comes to unpacking at your new home, it is far more likely that the right boxes will get placed in the right room. No more guessing whether that miscellaneous box is bedroom items, electronics, or pantry-related.

4. Pack decorative items a few weeks out.

Pack up all your art and decorative items several weeks before you move. These pieces can be some of the trickiest to store because they’re fragile and often oddly shaped, so having a bit of extra time to figure out how to properly cushion them is crucial.

5. Rent reusable moving boxes.

One simple way to save time is to order moving boxes and having them delivered. You can get Gorilla Boxes delivered before you move and picked after at your new moving locations. One good tip is to pre-order moving boxes a few weeks before you move. This allows you to get a good head-start, and most box rental companies tend to book-up closer to the end of the month.
